This week I want to discuss EXPECTATIONS!
YES! We all have them, and we've all had them given to us. We've probably all been disappointed at some point in our lives, businesses, or careers.
And, well, I'm pretty sure we've all disappointed someone who EXPECTED us to do something, be somewhere, help somehow or just jump in when we had no clue our help was needed!
As a DiSC® certified business coach, I'm regularly talking about CLEAR COMMUNICATION!! And this is a big part of EXPECTATIONS!
Think about a time when you were disappointed in someone or you found out someone was disappointed in you. What was the circumstances? What didn't they – or you do?
- Were you CLEAR with your instructions - what you need or want help with or the job to be done?
- Was a deadline given?
- Are there strong boundaries in place?
There are so many more things in life and business that can cause disappointment due to expectations.
You can't EXPECT someone to help if they don't realize you need it.
You can't EXPECT people to RESPECT your boundaries if you haven't set them!
You can't EXPECT that new product or service to change the world if no one knows about it!
EXPECT is a harsh word to begin with isn't it?
